This is a painting of my good friend Eddie Gardner (T'it'elem Spath - singing bear), who is president of the Wild Salmon Defenders Alliance and a respected Sto:lo elder from the Skwah village near Chilliwack. Eddie works tirelessly to remind us all that we share "a sacred duty and responsibility with others to protect our land and waters, in honour of our ancestors and future generations." In the painting Eddie holds high the beautiful wild salmon drum made by Darren Charlie, a well-known drum maker from the Sts’ailes Indian Band located near Harrison Hot Springs, BC. Here is a link to the Sto:lo gift shop for more info on Darren Charlie. Prints of this image are available with all profits going to the Wild Salmon Defenders Alliance to support the work of front line water and salmon protectors. |
